My boyfriend took me for my birthday on Aug 2nd and everything was exceptional, no complaints. The Manager was extremely personable, very attentive. The seating was a bit small, but service and the food was excellent. The portions were perfect. Food was served at perfect timing. First, we were served with bread and olive oil with vinegar for dipping. We started off with appetizers, crab cakes that accompanied horse radish sauce (not too spicy, just perfect) and foie gras (first time I ever had it) tasty until I found out what it really was, just think of it as sushi (for those of you who are sushi lovers and have never had foie gras before.) For the main course, I had a seafood bowl full of lobster, scallops and shrimp, nothing skimpy there. It was too much to finish so I took the rest to go. My boyfriend raved about how tender the elk was. We had the full course with the exception of dessert since we were full from everything else. I totally recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Steamboat Springs, or just make a special trip for the heck of it. It's worth it.

While visiting Steamboat we tried Cafe Diva! Sunday date night special! It was a delicious and amazing experience. From the service to the food everything was amazing! Best quinoa risotto ever! The scallops to die for :)! The beet salad and the butternut squash cake were delicious!! I highly recommend if you want a exquisite dining experience!!

ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Took my love to Steamboat Springs as a surprise Birthday getaway and after reading such great reviews as I was planning the weekend, decided we had to spend our special evening at Cafe Diva. Emily took superb care of us and it was clear that she was truly invested and excited about what she does. The crab and tomato bisque was to die for and the soup of the day was lovely as well. Our butternut squash cakes were so tasty and unique. Our surf & turf entree and fllet were both decadent. Everything was truly incredible. What a delight is was to meet Paul, one of the owners, and select a bottle of Montrachet together for our meal. The creme brule for Birthday dessert was heavenly and paired nicely with our espresso and port. Cannot speak highly enough about our meal and experience. It will always remain a special memory for the both of us. Thank You!

Yum! This place is so romantic, quaint, and fabulous. The servers are friendly to guests as well as eachother; they work as a team (you can ask anyone passing by for help, and they all come to your table to refill waters, pick up plates, etc.) and know how to give service for this caliber of restaurant. We shared the corn creme brulee appetizer which was a large portion, I had the falafel tower which was way too much for me to eat but very pretty (the beet hummus was a beautiful color), my other half had the scallops which very yummy and presented beautifully. For dessert we had the S'more which was amazing and a great interpritation of actual campfire S'mores. The Rose wine suggested by our server was great and paired well with our food. They bring out bread as well (which we were unaware of), so you will definitely not leave this place hungry! The restaurant overlooks the resort area, and on the day we went there was a wedding going on in a tent nearby which provided us with music and entertainment (watching drunken wedding guests stroll by). This is a great location for a date night, especially with the beautiful bistro lights on the patio. The one thing that made us giggle was that each course brought to our table was placed on the table followed by a scripted narrative that began with "Tonight chef Kate...." or "Chef Kate did ______" which made Chef Kate seem like the leader of a cult. She is talented though!

Had to check out this place just because the name of the resturant ( i know its sounds lame). But it turned out pretty awesome. One of the few restaurants that i can actuAlly found the real extra virgin olive oil for the breAd's dip. Anyway i ordered their corn crème brûlée- i didnt pay attention that it comes with goat cheese as toping. Its not really my fan. It came out more in a sweet side for me, and the combination between the sweet with the goat cheese just killed the flavor that expected. Thats why i only give 4 star. Soup of the day- the organic yellow squash with green chile combo was fantastico. My dissapointment for the appetizer was paid off by this savoriousness:-) Stack of melon salad - speechless as it hitted right on my taste bud. The freshness of watermelon and cantelope combined with toast of arugula with some drizzle of aged balsamic reduction.. Nom nom to the max! The ambience was great, intimate and romantic. I definately had my great solo dinning out in cafe diva!

Wow! We just went to Cafe Diva for their date night special. I believe it was about $28 per person and WELL worth it. We started with warm ciabatta bread with oil, vinegar, and olives. Then appetizers- both the duck confit pizza and the squash cakes (way more decadent than they sound) were incredibly rich and delicious. For entrees we had scallops and mushroom wellington. I cannot rave enough about the mushroom wellington. Perfectly cooked puff pastry and great tasting mushrooms and sauce. Dessert was gingerbread cake with marscapone gelato. Perfect combination of sweet and creamy. While the food was incredible, the service was outstanding. From the moment we walked in, they took our coats and winter wear, seated us promptly, and our server Emily immediately checked in and got us our drinks. Emily continued to be incredibly attentive and friendly throughout the meal and made excellent recommendations. We loved every aspect of our meal at Cafe Diva and were thoroughly impressed with both the food and service. We will definitely be back, especially for a date night special. Great value for a luxurious meal experience.

We were told by no less than 3 separate locals thy Cafe Diva was hands down their favorite restaurant in Steamboat Springs, and so we had to give it a try! Reservations are a must, but boy was it worth it. I walked in with high expectations given the rave reviews, and suffice to say Cafe Diva not only met our expectations, it exceeded them with flying colors! Everything we ordered was sublimely done, and there were more than a couple items that were totally unique and also very well done. We had the foie gras creme brulee, bison steak prepared Southwest style, mushroom fettuccine, and crab and tomato bisque - all very tasty. Even the bread was great! Definitely a must do when in Steamboat.

Had dinner here couple weeks ago and came with very high expectations. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and immediately seated. Our sever (Tim?) was excellent and a true gentleman. He was knowledgable about their extensive wine list and when it came to food wasn't shy of offering recommendations. Appetizers that stood out for me were the foi gras, duck confit egg rolls, tomato and crab bisque, and crab cakes. The appetizers were excellent! The mains were a bit of a disappointed though. I had the surf and turf, and though the elk and scallops were cooked to perfection, the salt content was Too much. 2 of my colleagues had sent back their mains on the same account. It's like the sous chef wanted to give us a sodium attack. However, the desert and service made up for it :). Will definitely come back on my next visit to steamboat.

We heard rumblings from every shuttle driver, hotel concierge and locals that cafe diva was more than just a great restaurant, but rather a full culinary experience. I had booked my family reservations months in advance after I did some business with Beth and Paul. We were seated in the back room which was beautifully decorated with a cushioned booth and local artwork. The waitress was extremely knowledgable about the menu and she walked us through some of the hot ticket items. She brought out the bread which surprisingly was delicious as it was accompanied by warm kalamato olives. For appetizers we got the duck egg rolls and the peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. I've never tasted such an amazingly rich snack as those sandwiches. I could eat those every day of my life and die a happy man! For an entree my parents got the mushroom fetticini which was good but I think missed the boat with some of the other spectacular entrees. I landed on the beef tenderloin which was so beautifully cooked. The meat was perfectly tender cooked and the spicy homeade ragu sauce was a breathe of fresh air compared to most steak accompanied sauces. We finished the meal with espresso and sorbet and walked away with the utmost satisfaction from the meal. Cafe Diva CAN NOT be missed if you are visiting Steamboat.

If you love the crisp refreshing taste of Greek salad avoid the Diva interpretation. Heavy tomato paste dressing and a ton of heat due to a generous application of banana peppers mixed throughout the salad. I could barely taste my entree.

BF decided to take me out for a little romantic dinner and boy was this THE place to be for a romantic night out. Very nice cozy intimate little place. Walking distance from The Grand Steamboat, which it where we stayed for our little holiday getaway. Started out sharing a crab and tomato bisque. Ohhh emm geee. I wanted to order 10 more bowls. Bombdotcom!!!! We both had the Surf & Turf (Elk tenderloin & diver scallop). The scallops were seared to perfection. My waitress was nice enough to replace my elk tenderloin with beef since she recommended that the elk is only good on the rare side and I don't like my meat rare. No room for desert because of the portion of our entrees.

Fabulous service by Theresa. Great knowledge of wine Food very good but frisée salad overdressed and our friend thought most dishes over salted. My corvina was delicious

Daryl was the BEST server that I have ever had! He made our dinner even that much more enjoyable! Paul, the owner was also just as fantastic to talk to. Exceptional service at Cafe Diva! You MUST try the Foie Gras Slider...it is to die for! Also, the Peanut Butter and Bacon Sandwiches were out of this world good! As for the main course, our table ordered the Lamb Shank and Diver Scallops, both of which were amazing!! Making a reservation is a must at Cafe Diva! FYI: Menus change with the season

I've owned a place in steamboat for more almost a decade and Cafe Diva was always a treat I'd give to family and friends every time we visited. I recently took a dear friend to Steamboat to celebrate my birthday. For days I bragged about Cafe Diva's food and ambiance. So I made a reservation there for the two of us. We were seated at a corner table. I moved my chair to be closer to my date and have a view of the outdoors instead of the wall being careful not to block an isle or another tables seating. The owner Paul immediately came up to me and said 'I wouldn't come to your home and rearrange your furniture so don't rearrange mine'. When he left I called the waitress over and asked for the check for the drinks and asked her to please cancel our order. She was very understanding. I'm amazed Paul is an owner given his complete lack of tact with patrons. The good news is we left and went to Carl's where we sat at the bar and the bartender treated using we were regulars and gave us five star service and my date could not have felt more comfortable. After this experience I'd prefer McDonalds or Taco Bell to Cafe Diva and would never recommend it to anyone ever again and would not step foot in this restaurant. It needs an owner who recognizes this isn't his living room and he charges an arm and a leg and treats patrons worse that a McDonalds clerk at the end of a shift! Thumbs down all the way.

We had a great dinner here with my work. Its the 3rd time we have brought a group to Cafe Diva. The food is always excellent. My favorite thing on the menu was the Pork Belly Sliders. They were out of this world. The wait staff at this place is some of the best I have ever experienced. They always have proper serving techniques when serving and pulling food. They also always serve everyone's food at the same time, no matter how many people are at the table. If you are looking for a good service restaurant, this is the place to go in Steamboat. One issue I did have was that the Kale salad was soaked with salad dressing! Most of us at the table couldnt eat our salads.

Cafe Diva served the absolute greatest meal I've had the pleasure to eat. My husband and I celebrated our 5th anniversary here and are still thinking about it, two days later. The service was incredibly friendly and informative without being overbearing. The atmosphere was cozy without being crammed with tables. And the food, oh the food. We started with the Lobster Rolls - a delicious warm lobster salad of sorts on top of a bun. They serve bread, olives with toasted almonds and an olive oil vinaigrette for each table. I had the Diver Scallops, seared to perfection and atop a bed of succotash. My husband had the Market Catch - Alaskan fresh caught salmon. We ended the meal with the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream. I didn't know chocolate could taste so delicious...and I LOVE chocolate. I'm not sure you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Highly recommended!

This place was referred to us from the Sheraton resort concierge, who was able to get us in late notice - we are sooo appreciative she did - it was our finest dining evening of the week in Steamboat, not because it was the best of average resort town food, rather because it was run by owners who car and participate in all aspects of the dining experience making sure they deliver beyond what is expected. From service, to menu items that are unique and specially prepared to a wine list that doesn't disappoint or take advantage of. It's a small strip mall location walking distance from the lower lodge/gondola area, the ambience inside is warm and befitting of this chef-owned restaurant. A must in Steamboat.

Fabulous food. From the duck confit rolls with who knows what heaven sauce to the elk tenderloins to the scallops bacon sauce. The dessert hazelnut cake with brandied cherries and salt caramel ice cream store the show, however. Very pricey, but for a nice night, worthwhile. Only downside was the restaurant is small and they pack a lot of people in, got every loud. Not ideal for a quiet romantic dinner.

This has to be the best restaurant in Steamboat and is on my list for best restaurant ever. The whole menu looks great and is creative but if for no other reason, go for the foie gras creme brulee. Its accompanied by a strawberry drizzle and locally baked brioche. It's one of the best things I've ever tasted. The surf and turf is an Elk Tenderloin with perfectly cooked and seasoned scallops accompanied by fresh green beans and mashed potatos. It's splittable and great. The hazelnut cake is something I normally wouldn't try but we did and it was equally awesome. This all coupled with perfect service and a great wine list made for one of the best overall meal experiences I've ever had.

Like Nate, I don't understand all the hype. We come from a big city with lots of great restaurants, and while Cafe Diva could probably survive, they certainly wouldn't compete. We've also eaten all over the world, and this just doesn't cut it for what they want to be. We found their service to be obsequious and overbearing - it's beyond knowing they are the "best in the Boat" and being confident, they are condescending. Not rude, but it seems as if they are doing you a favor waiting on them. Don't buy it. Food was, hmm, adequate. Some dishes seasoned to heavily, others were merely average. While I don't like the TVs, we've had multiple better dining experiences at Three Peaks Grille just down the street.

My wife and I went there for our 10th Anniversary Saturday night and I cannot say enough good things about Cafe Diva. From the moment we made our reservation we received two follow up calls from Paul confirming arrangements. We arrived early for cocktails and were graciously greeted and seated on the patio. When the patio proved a little too windy, they worked to seat us early (we hadn't even requested it). In our time there we were addressed directly and professionally by no fewer than four servers, all of whom treated us warmly and made us feel incredibly welcome. And our server, Heather was perfect for us. We like to chat, so she obliged, she was like a friend at the end of the night. But never once did I see her miss a beat with any of her guests. Lest this go on FOREVER, I'll just line out the menu: Warm Olives and ciabatta bread with oil. Peach, Burrata, Speck and Arugula Salad Pork Belly Bib Lettuce Wraps Scallop and Lobster Corn Chowder Elk Tenderloin Peaches and Olive Oil Cake Every. Single. Course. Was. Fantastic. All five star. Olives? That's great. Warm Olives? WOW. Now, when I saw the chowder on the menu I questioned how it might actually work as an entree. Wow, was I wrong. Amazing flavor and presentation. The Elk was incredibly tender and not in the least gamey. I don't like peaches but it was our anniversary and "Whatever you would like, my dear." was in full effect. Wow, was I wrong again. I LOVED both the salad and dessert. I could go on and on. Just go already

Recommended by a local friend as one of the best places on the mountain for dinner, my husband and I stopped in last night. The staff was stellar--Josie helped us choose the right portion sizes (thank goodness!!) and had great recommendations for the best things on the menu. We ordered 2 apps (the Foie Gras and the PB+J sliders) which were both awesome. Josie had recommended that we get the apps at two separate times because they could have overpowered one another--and boy, was she right. It gave us the opportunity to enjoy each individually. Then we split the bison tenderloin which was done to perfection and just the right size. (again at Josie's recommendation). We did however make one ordering error--dessert--we should have split one instead of ordering 2 individuals (the lemon olive oil cupcake and the tiramisu) -by the end of dinner we were totally stuffed and totally satisfied. The wine list is awesome, and the best part? The doggy bag! As tourists from NY we didn't know you could take the wine you don't finish home with you! We've now got a 1/4 bottle of the Worlds End waiting for us at the end of a long ski day! We will certainly be back--and we'll make reservations well in advance as Cafe Diva books up quickly! Great experience, great food!

I really liked the atmosphere. It was very cozy and quaint. The food was good, but not traditional in any way. It seems like most of the restaurants in steamboat are pricy, and when you open a menu your like what is that? This was one of those places.

    (4)
  • Gregory P.

What is the deal with the high rating for this restaurant? I really isn't worth it, even giving credit for higher prices in a ski town. I had the tea smoked duck appetizer - tasteless. "Surf & turf" - scallops OK, bison OK but have had as good for less elsewhere. And why served on the sides of a veritable Mount Evans of potatoes? Harwig's downtown has far better food, with service that's at least equal.

Awesome! Awesome!! Wonderful service, food awesome! You know it's good when the lobster rolls are the worst appetizers out of the four our group ordered. Awesome wine info and don't miss desert!

  • Franzba L.

Fabulous 5-star dining experience. The diver scallops were phenomenal--succulent and cooked perfectly with the flavors of the fennel, citrus and tarragon mingling and layering beautifully. The creme brûlée was simple but also fantastic, delicately flavored with vanilla bean and wonderfully creamy. Even the fresh bread and olives were delicious. My waitress Gay was also wonderful--warm and knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations. Reservations are a must but Cafe Diva is must not miss while in Steamboat Springs!

  • Nate S.

I don't understand what all the hype is about. Everyone here was extremely friendly, but I don't review strictly on service unless it's bad. Numerous people told us that this is the nicest restaurant in town. The appetizers were average, and the Bison tenderloin was something I would pass on next time. I had better Tasting Elk at the Grill downtown. We also had a seafood stew type dish which was bland. Nothing blew us away here!

We aren't strangers to world-class restaurants. We travel extensively and live in a city with many fine dining options. Needless to say, we had high expectations, given the great reviews and recommendations from several locals. Were we ever not disappointed! First of all, the level of service here is miles above any other restaurant in Steamboat. We were delighted to be served by Daryl, who was voted this year's best waiter in Steamboat in their "Best of the Boat" survey. He romanced that menu like nobody's business. Clearly a career waiter and really knows how to sell it without being pushy. The fresh-baked ciabatta bread accompanied by warm olives with toasted almonds and a mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar was a really special way to start off our meal. We ordered two starters: the peanut butter and bacon sandwiches and the crab and tomato bisque. The sandwiches were phenomenal. Very high quality pork belly, very meaty and hardly fatty at all, topped with peanut sauce and highlighted with sriracha. Amazing! The bisque was equally wonderful - a wonderfully savory, thick tomato bisque with perfectly flavored crab. I wish I could've licked the bowl! Our entrees did not disappoint at all. I had the lamb shank, which is enormous - way too much to finish! There is no need for the shark steak knife they bring with this entree - it easily falls off the bone with a fork. The flavors of the chickpea hash, harissa yogurt, and this amazing tomato chutney-like sauce all married perfectly with the lamb. My husband ordered the salmon with horseradish applesauce, spaetzle and sauteed julienned vegetables. Perfectly pan-seared and rare inside, the salmon was absolutely dreamy and once again, the accompaniments were perfectly balanced. The wine list is very thoughtful and we were impressed with the value. Our Siduri Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley was the perfect complement to the lamb and salmon. Sadly, we were so stuffed that we couldn't even consider dessert, although the olive oil cake and bacon brownies looked amazing. The creme brulee is made with Madagascar vanilla beans, which sounded divine. We will save room next time! This will be our first stop on our next visit to Steamboat. Loved loved loved it!

My husband and I went here the other night on our honeymoon. I had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly and accompanied by lentils, brussels sprouts and prosciutto. My husband had the lamb shank. Both meals were fabulous and unique. For an appetizer, we followed reviews and had the peanut butter and pork belly sandwiches. This is a must have! Neither of us has ever seen anything like it, and it did not disappoint. Buon appetito!

Cafe Diva was impressive from all angles. As soon as we walked in, our server Daryl made us at home. Daryl was the tops. He knew the menu inside and out, was incredibly friendly, and seemed to have a real familial connection with the restaurant. Every time he said "thank you," you could tell he really meant it. Daryl was the best. THEN, as we were looking over the (extensive) wine menu (book), the sommelier, Beth, walked over and asked if we needed any help. Her explanations of the wines were incredibly detailed and she seemed to know just what we were looking for. Everyone at Cafe Diva works as a team to make sure the customer has the best possible experience. Now, for the food. Holy hell. We got the Duck Confit Gyros (wow. the flavor. wow), the crab tomato bisque (oh yum), and the surf and turf (elk and diver scallops with veggies and mashed potatoes... the scallops had their own special sauce, which changes according to the chef). Everything was delicious, not a complaint in the house, and while the portions are large (thank goodness we split...), nothing was too heavy. The bf and I left quite satisfied. Cafe Diva was definitely a splurge, probably the classiest place I've been to in a very long time (though we felt welcome from the very beginning), but it was worth it! yum yum yum.

Food orgasm!! The appetizer Heirloom tomato Verrine was so delicate on the tongue but explodes with amazing flavor. The roasted olives with almonds was heaven. The almond pate was wonderful. The Colorado tenderloin Bison was to die for. I can literally die today and be food happy. The wine added the enhancement to the evening. The last touch was the truffles, raspberries and strawberries. What a most wonderful meal and evening to end the week. Thank you

A must try restaurant in ski time square. Everything was great from the service to the food. Try the peanut butter and bacon sandwich for an appetizer sounds strange but it was amazing.

Really enjoyed the food here, but some minor irritations... such as having to wait in a tiny/crowded alleyway to be seated... and the constant (and I mean constant) references to "Chef Kate does this...", "Chef Kate does that..." rather got the feeling that Chef Kate may be a bit too egotistical... Apart from this, the food was delicious and the presentation excellent... the staff are super polite and really take care of you... Definitely worth a visit if you are in town, but in all honesty we preferred 'Bistro CV' over 'Cafe Diva' because it isn't quite so pretentious... and also the more casual 'Laundry' restaurant... which is absolutely fabulous...

Started with the Peanut Butter and bacon sandwiches, they were good! I had the crab and tomato bisque....have had better! My friend had Roasted Mushroom salad.....FANTASTIC! I had seared diver scallops for my main entree....again have had way better! My friend had CO natural tenderloin the bison choice, he said it was good. Our server was great. The restaurant got us in without a reservation which is awesome because there was not anything open all 3 nights we were there. Side note, we did show up when they opened at 530 otherwise they probably would not have been able to "squeeze" us in. The overall reason for the 3 stars is because, well just because almost everything I ate (on the exception of the mushroom salad) I said, "I have had better." So overall for the cost to taste value I was not very impressed :(

This place is easily a top choice and you should go out of your way to enjoy it. It can easily compete with the San Francisco or New York food scene. While it's not French Laundry or Per Se, the food will leave you very satisfied. Started with the crab cake, followed by the surf and turf. While those menu choices may sound 'normal', they were anything but. The sauces, vegetables and other items created an amazing blend of flavors that complemented each other and made the meal extra special. Ended with the brownie and ice cream. Enjoyed everything and would come back.

Delicious! A great place to savor your meals over wine. If money is no object, Cafe Diva is where it's at. Tasted 5 different meals across the table and all were absolutely delightful. Plus I loved the large, extensive wine list - while a little daunting the sommelier was extremely helpful in helping us pair a bottle for all at the table to enjoy with their meals. I would definitely eat here again!

This wasn't my first time here, and it won't be the last. Food is always amazing. Chef Kate is very good at what she does and the staff are on point. Great wine list and seasonal menus are awesome. Love coming here and look forward to the next time!

At the recommendation of local Steamboaters, my wife and I dropped by Cafe Diva with high expectations... and we weren't disappointed. The warm olives and bread+dip were a great start, and the serving sizes were generous. I had the Surf 'n Turf (scallops & elk) and my wife had the Bouillabaisse. If we didn't have to maintain our parade as nice, respectable young adults, we would have been licking our plates. To top it off, our server, Gaybabe, was extremely nice and welcoming.

Well.... Who says Steamboat Springs does not offer fine dining and is just a 9000 person cowboy town? Not the case. After you get tired of Bistro C.V. ( your 3rd week in Steamboat ) try Cafe Diva. The deconstructed chicken tortilla soup and the heated up olives will make you come back. The service is also top notch. This restaurant can compete with top big city dining establishments. Thumbs up for Diva and Steamboat.

My hubs chose this as our anniversary dinner location, and I've got to say, he chose well (as always). The decor is a bit dated and dark, but we sat in the back, elevated corner which meant I got to sit on a comfy bench surrounded by pillows and my husband got to stare at me. Awesome! Our server was attentive and made excellent food recommendations (although I don't really think you could go wrong with any choice). The dishes were well thought out and balanced; crunchy, sweet, slightly salty, a little spice etc. We started with the Crab Salad. The avocado puree balanced nicely with the crab and while I love beet chips, I found them to be my least favorite part of the dish. As for entree, I was excited to hear that there was no Sea Bass since instead it meant Barramundi, which I love, was the substitute fish. The quinoa and watermelon gazpacho were delicious. The hub had the Pork Tenderloin which was outstanding. The portions were larger than I thought and we were both extremely stuffed. I believe they have 2 sommeliers on staff so you can guarantee a perfect wine recommendation.

Walked by this restaurant for 10 years, what a mistake! The servers and owners work side by side and are simply wonderful. They recommend things, tell you the details behind the dishes, and are just fabulous. The food is spectacular, might look pricey, but the quality of the food and the flavors were spectacular and you won't regret your choice at all.

Be a diva for the night, and bask in the decadence! Incredible service & dinner delights. Best meal for as long as I can remember. Romantic ambience, perfect cocktails, top notch all around from the marcona almond olives & bread to the last bite of the night. Even the bathroom marble tile was fit for a queen. The tomato crab bisque was smooth, creamy, perfectly balanced. Boulder Valley Tenderloin melted in your mouth like butter & could have filled two people w/ sweet potato, tomato, kale, cherry accompaniment. You must get the peaches & olive oil cake w/ mascarpone ice cream. Amazing evening. Thank you, Cafe Diva!! Tip: Call way ahead in ski season for a reservation. Don't trust the Yelp hours of operation, they ARE open weekends, and you will be lucky to get a spot. :D

I have been going to SB for about ten years and this is clearly the best restaurant in the town Be aware, reservations are very hard to come by (we could not get in this past December) It is a relatively small place, with a real focus on putting out food that is both good, and a little different. The wine list is good and the service is fine (not as good as the food I would say) They change the menu quite frequently, so everything is fresh and relatively new (keeping some of the favorites) Not much more to say - go and experience it - make sure to save some room for dessert - and book way ahead (like a season)!

Hmm -- I see that I reviewed this in July. I must be getting forgetful. Still, this is a place that deserves the reviews. We just went again in March, and it was outstanding as usual. The Sea Bass was the best we've ever eaten. Ever. It was served over a bed of sautéed mushrooms (8 kinds) which would seem strange, but it was excellent. The salad was outstanding, service was great, and the dessert -- always great. My husband and I shared the food b/c the portions were big enough to share if you got an appetizer, salad, and main course. Make a reservation ahead of time, but it is worth it.

Hands down, one the best meals I've had in many months! If you're in Steamboat and want a memorable meal, you'd be remiss to pass up Cafe Diva. I took my sister here for her 30th birthday on Christmas Eve, and it was worth the wait! I made reservations a month in advance since it was the holidays. We started with a split of champagne, she had a (very strong) pomegranate martini, and my brother in law stuck with a dark beer. Since we'd made the mistake of having a late afternoon snack, we skipped the appetizers and salads and went straight for the entrees. Cafe Diva offers up a modest menu, with a focus on what's fresh and seasonal. One thing I loved about the meal - warm olives topped with almonds. It never would have occurred to me to serve green olives warm, but they were incredibly delicious. My sis has a nut allergy, so they brought out a special dish just for her, and our server notified the chef so that nothing nutty accidentally snuck onto her plate. (Nothing ruins a great birthday dinner like having to whip out the epi pen!) I ordered the beef tenderloin, and was not disappointed. Delicious. It came with a side of crunchy green beans and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were overwhelmed a bit with dried onions, but that's a small complaint since everything about our meal was spectacular. Cindy had the catch of the day, which she enjoyed, and Wil had the lamb shank, served thick and hearty like a stew, and the meat was falling off the bone. Icing on the cake? The waiter overheard us talking about it being Cindy's birthday so brought out a complimentary chocolate torte topped with fresh raspberries and raspberry sauce. What a way to end the meal. My only regret was that I didn't get to try their signature crab and tomato bisque. Next time!

Oh my. Way can one write about this place. We almost ordered too much (our waiter kindly guided us through the evening to keep us in check) because there were so many interesting options. The foie gras, pork saltimboca, and surf and turf were spectacular. The surf and turf came with a locally sourced elk tenderloin that was the item of the evening. We received many unsolicited recommendations from various locals. Great option for a romantic evening!

Absolutely love this place. Everything about it was amazing! The food, the service, the ambiance... My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Steamboat, and we could not have asked for a better meal to spend as a newly married couple. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny! Highly recommended!

Top notch. Easily the best meal we've had in the 5 years of living in Steamboat. Sort of bummed we didn't give them a try sooner. As a bonus, we went on the last night they were open before closing for spring break, so the Chef was clearing out the kitchen. Our portions were huge. Definitely recommended.

One of our favorite restaurants, pretty much anywhere in the world. World class, without any foam or other gastronomical tricks (in comparison to Bistro CV). Just great local and seasonal ingredients, expertly and creatively prepared. Service is top-notch but yet casual. Great wine list.

This place BLEW OUR MINDS! It is our new favorite place in Steamboat. Filet and Elk Filet were awesome and the Scallops are in my top 5! Very price and you better get a reservation ahead of time because the bar only seats 4. Great wine list and apps as well. One of the owners is the Chef and all 3 owners are local and sommeliers. Highly recommend!

Cafe Diva was the absolutely perfect spot for my daughters surprise engagement dinner. Paul and his staff were extremely helpful and seemed almost as excited as we did about the the surprise. The champagne and food were delicious and the service exceptional. Thanks to all of you at Cafe Diva for making our memorable night even more special!

This place rocks. Our wonderful server Gaye started us off with the warm bread, olives olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. We had the duck confit tostadas for an app and they were wonderful. The jalapeno cilantro creme fraiche and the mole were perfect compliments. I had the lamb shank and my wife had the stuffed pork chop. Both were perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. Compliments to the chef. The portions were not small for fine dining and we didn't have room for dessert. We did have lemoncello and Fernet after dinner, something that is hard to find. Bottom line this is one of the best dining experiences we have had in a while. I am writing this after our less than memorable meal at another establishment. I came in again to enjoy another Fernet and Gaye remembered me and my drink of choice. Tonight I sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of Kristin, who pours a mean Fernet and Stella. Thanks to all you at Cafe Diva for a wonderful time. We will be back next year.

Best place in steamboat for fancy dinner! If you have a special occasion they WILL make it is reflected during the entire experience for you. The wine list is giant and don't be scared to ask for recommendations as two of the owners (third is chef) are sommeliers. Very large portions, but save room for great desserts.

Weekend escape to Steamboat Springs, unwinding in an idyllic mountain town. Gentle winter night, surrounded by cloud-capped alpine vistas. Warm scarf wrapped snugly around my neck, laugh echoing with close friends. Fine dining at Cafe Diva, a feast fit for the discriminating palette. Sleek and modern, yet down to earth, amazing wine list and cozy tables. Chef Kate Van Rensselaer Rench creating culinary perfection. Warm velvet olives, dressed beautifully with crunchy almond slivers. Brittle bread slices daintily drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, teasing tiny taste buds. Duck Confit Pizza on slender flatbread, sweet apple butter melting into earthy duck. Crispy fried sage, tangy goat Gouda, mixing seductively hand in hand. Caramelized shallots and roasted mushrooms, layering a bed of delight. Crab and tomato bisque, whispers sweetly from the spoon. Delicate bits of crab gracefully swimming in crimson nectar waves. Rightfully praised highly by those who've dined. Silken Corvina Seabass lounged neatly upon a pillow of black barley. Harvest vegetables bathed in savory butternut squash broth, adorned with crispy sage. Autumn flavors glide tenderly down the tongue. Elk tenderloin and Maine Diver Scallops, yin and yang of surf and turf. Pool of smooth tangy veal demi glace swirled Next to pool of chunky tart maple, mushroom, bacon, balsamic reduction. Elk subtle and tame. Scallops salty and succulent. Almond hericots verts and Yukon gold mashed potatoes deliciously mounded high. Chocolate espresso torte, thick, rich and indulgent. Moistened by dripping Kahlua creme anglaise, chocolate and caramel sauces. Timidly holding back urges of chocolate lust, Rewarded with nibbles of flirty chocolate covered espresso beans. Smoky shot of espresso brightened with lemon peel. Slow blood quickened to a blushing glow. Stomach, heart and soul full. Exceptional, attentive service unparalleled. Steamboat's finest dining experience, sweeps you off your feet. Quaint vacation location draped in memories of flavor. Respite from the mundane, freedom from the same. Luxuriate in mountain beauty and culinary art.

This place was just as amazing as everyone told me it would be. I was in town for pastry judging over the weekend and wanted to check the local dining scene. Locals recommended Diva and I'm glad they did. My friend and I made reservations, arrived and were seated right away. My friend eats gluten free and I have a nut allergy and our waiter was awesome accomidating our needs. I had the amazing watermelon and aparagus salad!!! Out of this world, I want to try and recreate it at home. For my entree I got the Seabass, this had great flavor and paired really well, with the salad not to heavy. My friend got the greek salad and the seared scallops. All were done to perfection. What more could you ask for; great service and food carefully and artfully presented by a very talented chef!!! I can't wait to visit Steamboat again and see what else Chef Diva is cooking. A+++

Great meal tonight. Bread tray w olive oil nice but the small dish of warmed olives with almond nuts sprinkled on them were really great. Then a tomato bisque which was the best I have ever had! The main course was a spiced pork tenderloin which made me proud to be the son of a man who raised quality pork! It was on a sauce which made it special and so very, very tender. (I ordered it medium.) Service was very good although note that I posted tonight that it seems if you dine alone with an iPad everyone thinks you must be a critic. I guess these days with Yelp & other social media, we are! This is a great restaurant and one you should try to get into if in Steamboat Springs. (Make reservations if you are not coming in the off season.) Thanks to Kathy and Teresa at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club for the recommendation.

OMGOODNESS! Where has this place been all my life? Amazing wine selection! We basically had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. 1) Breakfast: Foie gras on waffles with apples and an amazing sauce. Huge portion! I think about this app and I drool. There really is not an exceptional description for this app that I could write; just order it. It isn't on the menu; just ask. 2) App #2: Lunch: Porkbelly, thai peanut sauce, bread slice, and sirachia sauce on the side. It was the most amazing PB&J I've ever had! Put a little siracha on top of the peanut sauce and spice it up. 3) Dinner: I don't know where to begin with this. Elk, mash potatoes and green beans in a red wine Demi glace. Seriously, I am salivating writing this. I've never had elk until this, and I'm told I won't have elk this amazing again. More tender than any meat I've ever had. The texture and taste were out of this world! The potatoes, well, the were clouds in my mouth. These may have ruined potatoes for me forever. The Demi glace, pulled it all together. Picture Homer Simpson drooling, yea, that's me right now. My fiancé and I decided that this is one of the top three best dinners we've ever had. I put it at #1, he couldn't make a final decision. I would recommend, but bring your pocketbook because this is expensive. However, leave your fancy attire at home; blue jeans and a smile is all you need here!!!!

The best restaurant in Colorado? At least it's the best that I have personally been to between San Francisco and New York. Date of visit: mid January 2012. Cafe Diva has a warm and relaxed atmosphere. It has many things that I love about restaurant design. The wine cellar is cleverly displayed as you enter. It's not too loud. There is no open kitchen. Fresh local ingredients. Great service. The portions were so large I had to bring it home. I had the surf (scallops) and turf (elk) and it was fantastic. Others in our four person party had the buffalo which was also very good. The 'Winter Salad' however was just OK. The presentation on a black plate made dish look less appealing and the dressing was slightly too heavy. If I lived in Steamboat, I would go to Cafe Diva at least twice a month. N.B. I have one big peeve about Colorado restaurants: you cannot bring your own wine. I usually do not bring wine to any restaurant, but it's nice to have the option, even with a corkage fee. The option of bringing your own bottle of well stored vintage for a special occasion really allows one to create their own experience.

We heard this was the place to Eat an amazing dinner and we were not let down. We made reservations and continued to eat a fantastic meal. If you go, be sure to try the peanut butter pork belly sandwiches-AHmazing. Curried carrot soup, lamb shank, elk tenderloin, and sea bass were also superb!

This place was really an amazing meal and experience. The service was unparalleled, even when compared to other great restaurants. The server knew the menu like the back of his hand and had worked there for 13 years. The sommelier came up to us while we were looking at the wine list, and gave us appropriate and honest recommendations, and the wine was great. The crab/tomato bisque is among the best ive had. Fresh crab and you really taste the freshness of tomato, tastes really great. The duck confit gyros were just amazing. Crispy, soft, salty, sweet. The surf and turf was WOW. Perfectly cooked elk tenderloin with a delicious demiglace, and a buttery scallop. The chef even made a different sauce for me because I dont eat bacon (that was in the sauce of the day). From all perspectives, a meal 100% worth the money. And the great thing about Colorado--you can go into a classy place in jeans and a shirt.

This place has good food. Small portions and very expensive though. Also, the owner was a total A-Hole. Made us feel very unwelcome even though we had been long time customers. Haven't been back since. Take your money to Bistro C.V. or if you have no particular cuisine in mind, around the corner to Saketumi- both delicious and amazing service.

Not a great dinner. Yes, my husband's Elk was wonderful. And some of the other dishes among out party of 8 were good. But . . . the tight space and HORRIBLE lighting made the entire evening very uncomfortable. And, I, unfortunately, ordered what others here had recommended - the scallops, and they were AWFUL. Salty, salty, salty. Our friends are foodies and explained - they had soaked them in salt to 'plump them up' t appear larger. We are from the seacoast and have the best seafood - and I should have known better. I suppose if you stick with what they know in Colorado, which seems to be elk, beef and trout, the food there is good. But, the skip the pricey sorbet - it's worse than cheap water ice. And bring sunglasses for the lights behind the bar if you face that way (bizarre explanation was given about trying to disconnect them) - or the lights from the mall - if you face the windows. and don't expect to be able to push your chair back - if you sit anywhere. Better yet, eat at home.

Three words ... In-credi-ble! Went here on out last night in Steamboat. Luckily we got in for an early rez (5:45pm) not near our first choice. Started with the Egg & (Duck) Sausage salad ... Blew me away. Next I had the Fish of the day (Corvina - California Sea Bass). Ah-mazing!!! The rest of my group had incredible dishes, Artic Char, Natural Tenderloin (Beef) with Risotto, Lamb Shank ... Blew us away. Real foodies here. This has to be the best place in town. Had the Creme Brûlée for dessert ... Killer!! Great service. Great ambiance. Make reservations early!!!

After our realtor and everyone at her office raved about this place, my bf and I knew we had to try it. With a holiday weekend approaching and our stay in Steamboat Springs being only 2 nights, I was really counting on luck to help us get a reservation. When I called on Wednesday, the restaurant was closed for a private event. They were all booked up for Thursday, so I settled for the wait list. Checking back a little past 7pm this evening, the super friendly staffer on the phone informed me that I must have ESP because she was going down her wait list, about to call me, because they had a cancellation that evening. She asked me if 8:30pm would work and I thanked her profusely, saying how thrilled I was...and I wasn't kidding. The restaurant definitely lived up to the hype. No, it's not the best meal I've ever had, but the best $150 meal I've eaten. For the quality and service, this meal easily would have been $200 in San Francisco or New York. The service was exceptionally friendly and professional, without being stuffy and pretentious. Our jacket and coat were taken and hung immediately upon stepping into the restaurant and we were shown promptly to our table, next to a window so we could admire the falling snow. After some recommendations from our server, here's what we ordered: -peanut butter & bacon sandwich: Nothing like the pb&j I've been packing for the slopes. This was heavily Asian-influenced, tender braised pork belly with peanut and sriracha sauce. -beet salad: i could eat this every night as my main entree. Huge, towering salad, bursting with flavor. All the ingredients worked so well together, from the strong Stilton blue cheese to the sweet candied pecans. Also loved the fact they provided chilled plates for the salad. -butterfish special catch of the day: Moist, perfectly cooked fish, lying atop a savory tomato broth. -surf & turf: cornmeal crusted scallops with a tangy salsa sauce and elk with a port-like sauce: I'm usually hesitant to eat exotic meats because of the gamey flavor but the elk was delicious. think the sweet, thick sauce really complimented it well. The mashed potatoes were melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Unfortunately, my bf and I ran out of room in our stomachs. We were struggling to finish our main entrees, so dessert was out of the question. Their portions are hefty, which is unusual for fine dining establishments. Wish we had just split the surf-n-turn and skipped the butterfish so we could have saved room for a sweet treat afterwards. Guess that means we'll have to go back at some point to sample the dessert, as well as a number of their other dishes, which all looked fabulous. I love seasonal restaurants and this one is done right. Our two glasses of Pinot Noir held up to all the different flavors of our dishes perfectly, as recommended by our server. This restaurant is a winner!

We spent our anniversary weekend in Steamboat Springs and went to Café Diva for dinner on the recommendation of a local that we spoke to. Being mud season, the town was pretty quiet overall and this place was not busy and we were seated right away without a reservation on a Saturday night. The service that we received here was one of the best from the time we sat down until we finished our meal. We started off with drinks as our appetizer. As we were selecting our entrees, I asked about their soups, but decided just to go with entrees. While we were waiting for the food to come out, the server brought over samples of their soups. The soup of the day was a cream of asparagus type which was ok. The real deal is the crab tomato bisque, which was fantastic! The server told us that it's been on the menu since the first day of the restaurant and I could see why. My husband got the Boulder Valley Ranch Beef Tenderloin which was cooked well and nicely seasoned. I went with the surf and turf. The scallops get prepared differently each day and that evening they were crusted, which ended up being a bit too salty for me. The elk, on the other hand, was very good. The demi glace was absolutely delicious. Next time we go here, I will be having the tomato bisque and the full order of the elk!

Total hidden gem. It was such a nice surprise to have a great, interesting and fine dining experience in a ski town. No overblown steaks. No piles of cliched side dishes. No goopy ridiculous desserts. Just excellent and innovative dishes served by personable staff in a casual but elegant atmosphere. And, if you can believe, the prices were extremely reasonable. Excellent wine, soup, salad, entree, dessert and coffee for two - just over $100. The wine list is also very well done, with at least two bottles I'd go back to try. When we come back to Steamboat, this place is on the top of our list.

Better than average food in a cozy (sometimes loud) environment. One of the better meals at the base of the mountain but more expensive than it deserves. Points taken off for having one small bathroom for an entire restaurant. Also, the place is due for a remodel if they want to keep competing with all the new high-end places going in.

I've been eating here since they opened, and I can say that Cafe Diva just gets better and better. Excellent ownership in the front & back of the restaurant is reflected by a well-trained waitstaff and consistently great, complexly-flavored food. I agree with Adam R. that this food would rock the critics in any major city. I used to feel the appetizers outshone the main courses, but that's no longer true. The current (summer '08) menu includes a slow-roasted beef short rib that is just amazing. You don't have to be a vegetarian to appreciate the seasonal vegetarian main course (whatever it might be). The tomato bisque is a classic, and all the many varieties of duck appetizer are sooo good. Desserts are great, but who has room after the big portions? Lest I forget--owner/sommelier Paul Underwood is passionate about the wine list he's built. He'll even open a bottle from the list and sell you a glass or two.

Do not visit Steamboat Springs without dining at Cafe Diva! My family joined a group of 20 people for a week-long ski trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado last week. We had great snow, excellent skiing and the best of company. One of my favorite parts of traveling, however, is savoring the best of local restaurants. We had heard several people say that we must try Cafe Diva. We tried to make reservations several times, but to no avail. (It was a slow week for tourists, but they were still filled up nearly a week in advance!) Finally, on our last night, my wife and I ventured out for a date night and decided to just show up a few minutes before the restaurant opened, just to see what we could work out. Upon arriving, an outgoing and helpful maitre d' greeted us and informed us that every single table was spoken for from open to close... but before allowing us to be disappointed, he quickly suggested that we allow him to seat us at the bar for us to enjoy dinner there. We jumped on the opportunity, as there were only four bar seats. The restaurant is extremely intimate and cozy with walls full of fine wines surrounding you as you walk in. As we sat at the bar, the bartender was quick to welcome us and begin making suggestions for the most enjoyable evening possible. We enjoyed conversation with a few locals, who assured us that we had wondered into the perfect restaurant, and then began our overwhelming look through the many pages of the wine list. Wine connoisseurs we are not, and we were grateful for the expertise and direction of the maitre d' in selecting the perfect wine. We began our dining experience with Diva's warm, homemade bread accompanied by an oil and vinegar dip and seasoned green and kalamata olives - we had seconds!! My wife and I both decided on the Crab and Tomato Bisque Soup... it may have been the best soup of its kind I have ever had. For our main courses, my wife went light with a Romaine and Apple Salad, which pleasantly satisfied her, and I went for the full experience with the Surf and Turf: Elk Tenderloin, Scallops, Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes. The presentation was perfect and every bight was better than the last. I had never tried elk, but I was shocked at how tender and flavorful it was. While the portions appeared 'gourmet-sized,' I was more than content upon finishing. I tried my best to eat slowly, making the experience last as long as I could, but each item on my plate exuded such a unique and delicious flavor, I'm sure I ate too quickly. It would have been a sin not to stay for dessert, so we order the Divamisu and the Truffles and Berries. Again, the presentation was beautiful, the portions were generous, and the combination of simple and exquisite flavors was perfectly balanced. The Truffles and Berries definitely ranks among the most enjoyable desserts I have ever had. All in all, the meal was not cheap, but the environment, creative menu and entire dining experience was well-worth it. We will not visit Steamboat without making advanced reservations to enjoy Cafe Diva once again!

This is a superb restaurant, better than Colterra in Niwot, which makes it one of the best restaurants in Colorado. My wife had the scallops, I had the surf 'n turf (scallops and elk tenderloin) and my vegetarian daughters (9 and 3) split the ravioli. Each girl had a dessert, one an elaborate strawberry cupcake with honey gelato, and the other a sorbet plus biscotti with chocolate sauce. Superb service and a great wine list, but a limited beer list. The bill, including tip, was $178.

Definitely the best food we had in Steamboat with superior service. This is a restaurant for a special night (it is expensive) but it was definitely worth it. A great place for foodies. Excellent wine list and welcoming classy atmosphere. I would go again!

Cafe Diva is a wonderful find for people looking to have a top-end dinner after a day outdoors. Service was great from the very beginning -- our wait person had a strong knowledge ot the menu and wine list, was very friendly, and was attentive. Also, you can tell they really are into what they're doing, and love what Cafe Diva is all about. The food was great, it was hard to go wrong, but the staff recommendations really lived up to their billing. Two particular hits for me were the crab and tomato bisque and the tiramisu. A few things to look out for, but they're minor when compared to the quality of service, food, and the wonderfully decorated place. First, the tables are close together. As a result, the place can get LOUD! Second, maybe the A/C needed work when we were there, or perhaps because it was so full, but it got uncomfortably warm in the restaruant. Dressing in layers... hey its a ski town, you should be dressed in layers anyway!! Finally, plan ahead and call for a reservation, because this is one really popular place!

Love this place. Superior service. Excellent food, and the chef is a hottie. She definitely knows her stuff. The wine list I feel should feature some better sparkling selections but otherwise fantastic. Will definitely be going there for date night when they open back up!

The food would be awesome if they weren't trying so hard. The falafel appetizer was GENEROUS (should be shared) and only for fan of starch with starch. Tasty, but too much. I had beef tenderloin, my hubby had elk, the plates looked the same, well prepared, except for why smother perfectly good green beans with almonds? Our waiter seems to think that smarmy service is the way to go. OK, we eat out a lot, thanks, we know. It's a good restaurant, but please stop trying so hard!

Darrell is quite the performer and makes great show of his service & knowledge as a server -- almost to a point of being comedic... And condescending. HOWEVER, as long as you are not easily annoyed, you will enjoy every single morsel. The surf & turf, elk tenderloins and lamb shank were all the best we've EVER had.

One of the only two reasons to eat on the mountain.....Diva. Braised beef short ribs, oh my god, high contender for last meal on this earth. The menu is small, well thought out, seasonal and deliscious. Small restaurant so make a reservation but the atmosphere is intimate and the wine list is extensive with offerings in all price ranges. I don't think its pricey for what you get. Off season Sunday date night is one of the best deas in town.

One of the best restaurants in Steamboat! The food is very good with the dishes tending to be on the heavier side (ie great comfort food for those cold months). They have the best waitstaff in the 'boat, and if you call ahead they can accommodate any dietary restrictions.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing! The food was divine and the service was just as heavenly. The staff was helpful with our wine and they didn't try to sell us something crazy expensive. Check it out if you are ever in Steamboat springs!

I don't plan on giving out any five star reviews except for this one. Cafe Diva is the best restaurant in Steamboat Springs, period. The staff is exceptional the cozy setting is perfect for a romantic date or a fun group evening. And the food is beyond words. The menu changes with the seasons and each dish is better than the next. The wine list is just as impressive. Do not come to Steamboat Springs with out spending an evening at this extraordinary and well worth the price restaurant.
